Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes that provide a border between Canada and United States. It is the 14th largest lake in the world. Lake Ontario is 193 miles long and 53 miles wide, with 726 miles of shoreline. Its average depth is 283 feet, and its maximum depth is over 800 feet. The main inlet is the Niagara River which is the outlet for Lake Erie. The only outlet for Lake Ontario is the St. Lawrence River that leads to the Atlantic Ocean

Oak Orchard Fishing Charters

Oak Orchard Creek is a tailwater fishery that remains ice free throughout most of early the winter. A hydroelectric dam at Waterport in Orleans County regulates the creek's flow into Lake Ontario. From the dam to the lake the stream provides anglers with 2.5 miles of quality fishing. As the river grows closer to the lake it provides safe harbor for over 300 private boat moorings. Several large marinas are located at the mouth of the river.

The lower portion of this stream has great perch, bass, northern pike, rockbass and walleye fishing. The upper stretch is prime habitat for steelhead, brown trout, and salmon as they look to answer natures call and begin the spawning process. Genesee River Fishing Charters

The Genesee River is just over 150 miles long and is one of the few rivers in North America that flow from south to the north. The river gets its start near the Pennsylvania border and flows through the Letchworth State Park and eventually winds up flowing into Lake Ontario in Rochester.

The Genesee River receives runs of salmon and trout just like the other tributaries of Lake Ontario. It also provides fishing for bass, walleye, panfish and catfish. Tributaries that flow into the Genesee River include Honeoye Creek, Oatka Creek, and Black Creek.

Irondequoit Bay Fishing Charters

Irondequoit Bay is a large bay on the southern shore of Lake Ontario located in Rochester, New York. The Bay is four miles long and approximately 1/2 mile wide. The maxium depth of the Bay is just under 75 feet. Irondequoit Bay offers fishing for perch, bluegill, bullhead, carp, trout, walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass. The bay itself can be a nice diversion on the days when Lake Ontario is too rough to venture out into.

Argo Charters has been providing quality sport fishing opportunities to anglers for over 20 years. We offer single and multiple day packages; we also have the ability to put together multiple boat and corporate packages with lodging. We operate out of Port Bay, which is on the south shore of Lake Ontario, thirty five minutes northwest of Syracuse and about the same distance east of Rochester, NY. Typically we are on the water for 6 or 8 hours, but other time frames can be arranged. We support catch and release. However, we do not attempt to release wounded or bleeding fish. We use the lightest tackle possible based on the type of fish and fishing conditions; generally 6-8 lb test in the Spring, and 15 lb test for salmon.

Pultneyville is located between Irondequoit Bay and Sodus Bay and is approximately 14 miles east of Irondequoit Bay and 12 miles west of Sodus Bay. Salmon Creek runs into Lake Ontario at Pultneyville where it creates a small harbor that is home to a marina and a yacht club. Sodus Bay Fishing Charters

Sodus Bay is large inlet on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and is located about midway between Syracuse and Rochester. Sodus Bay is roughly 3000 acres in size. The Bay has a maximum depth of just under 50 feet however most of the bay is relatively shallow and is 20 feet or less in depth.

Sodus Bay fisherman may encounter the following species of fish northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass, crappie, white perch, carp, bullheads, and channel catfish. Recently the yellow perch fishing in Sodus Bay has taken the spotlight. Ice fishing is the bay is fantastic but the season can be short. Anglers fishing from a Sodus Bay charter boat may expect to encounter a wide variety of fish species including brown trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, coho salmon, chinook salmon, atlantic salmon.

Fairhaven is a large sheltered bay on Lake Ontario's southeastern corner. The bay is home to a large number of charter boats. The westeren side of the bay is also part of the Fairhaven Beach State Park. Two large breakwalls seperate the bay from Lake Ontario on its northen end. Oswego Fishing Charters

The Oswego Harbor is a commercial shipping port. It is also the gateway to the NYS Barge Canal, better known as the Erie Canal. Its sheltered waters offer fisherman a refuge on those days when the lake is a bit to rough to venture out on. Fishing the Oswego Harbor can really produce some amazing results. In the spring it offers a fantastic fishery for brown trout and steelhead. In the summer bass and walleye fisherman are here in large numbers. As the summer nears it end usually in mid September the salmon will collect up in the harbor prior to the fall run. Once they have become concentrated in the harbor they offer anglers a wonderful fishing opportunity.

The Oswego area of Lake Ontario has produced a World Record Coho Salmon as well as the New York State Record Brown Trout . Stephen M. Sheets of Woolrich, Pa., caught the record breaking coho that weighed in at 33.45 pounds and Tony Brown of Schenectady, NY caught the new state record brown of 33-pounds, 2-ounces. Both of these fantastic fish were taken by clients of local charter captains.

1,000 Islands Fishing Charters

The Thousand Islands are located on the St. Lawrence River at northeastern tip of the Lake Ontario. The chain of islands is about 50 miles long and rest between NY and Canada. The islands number well over 1,000 for the record. This area is home to a wide variety of warmwater fish species including muskellunge, walleye, smallmouth, largemouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, crappies, and bullheads. These species are plentiful here and can be caught by boating anglers, or by shore fishermen from docks and piers.

All tackle is provided, along with water, Gatorade, ice, sandwiches and snacks.
