The Capt. Mike is a Party Boat located at Howard Beach. It sails daily and has a full restaurant serving both hot and cold food, giant spacious enclosed cabin, color television, VCR and a stereo system throughout boat. They also offer free dockside parking, free rods and reels on all trips. Most forms of bait are provided for whatever species is being sought after by the boat
Atlantic cod are fish of the deep. They are most often found on the bottom at depths of 200 to 400 feet. Cod will feed on shrimp, clams, mussels, mollusks, crabs, lobsters, sea urchins, herring, shad, mackerel, silver hake. Jigging with a diamond jig is the most common way to catch cod. While fishing for cod you may also catch pollock, haddock and ling.
Party boats range is size and scope. Some target only fluke. Some target blues and bass. Still others will mix it up and take advantage of the seasonal fish migrations and may fish for several species during the same day. Some of these boats take as many as one hundred passengers on fishing trips. The charge per adult passenger ranges from 20 dollars to 60 dollars. Most boats have a cheaper rate for children and seniors. Boats leave at six, seven, and eight in the morning, and at midnight.
The number of party boats working the Atlantic Ocean has been in the decline for the last 10 years. The reasons for the decline are varied. Downturns in the economy, poor fish stocks, more stringent rules and regulations as well as the fact that many of the youths of the current generation were never exposed to the wonderful sport of fishing. Another problem is parking. Plan on getting there a couple hours early so you can aquire a parking spot you don't want to be left standing on the dock.
