Mike and his buddy had started fishing in the estuary the day before and did not catch or even hook a single fish. Around 6 pm they decided to call it quits and go get some dinner. After a nice meal and a few hours of sleep they met up with a guide at about 1 am for some drift boat fishing at the mouth of the river. They fished the mouth of the river until about 9 am and never hooked a fish with the guides help either.
The trip was not looking so good at this point. So about 9 am they left the guide and went to breakfast. They returned to the estuary with their own boat about 11 am and fished till 1 pm thats when a massive push of fish entered the river from the lake. With in the next 3 hours they hooked up with around 15 fish and landed 10, of them. They even had a couple of doubles that day.
The fish in the picture was 30 inches long and had an amazing girth of 29 1/2 inches. Mike wanted to have this fish which they had nicknamed Jelly Belly mounted. The owner of the campground they had stayed at the night before said he would get it to a taxidermist so he let him have it. Unfortunately that was the last time he saw the fish. Seems it got lost somewhere.
