Fishing in New York's tributaries can be a fun and rewarding experience. Steelhead, brown trout, salmon and even lake trout can be caught from NY tribs in the fall and early winter. Steelhead and brown trout will ascend the streams during high water periods. When the water levels drops these fish become easy to locate and catch. Fisherman will target these fish with flies, egg sacs and even worms and minnows.
If there has been sufficient rain fall the tributaries to the Finger Lakes will have a run of brown trout, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon. These fish are a bit smaller than the more northern cousins that most are pursuing, but if you want some peace and solitude and want to catch a few fish this is the way to go.
Tributary fishing in the Finger Lakes region is open till the end of December if you catch a warm day and care to try. Please check the
special regulations for Finger Lakes and Finger Lakes Tributaries .
