The date was August 16, 2006 when Bill Powers caught this amazing 10 pound 12oz. Brown Trout on Kensico Reservoir in Westchester County. Bill was trolling with a #9 silver and black floating Rapala. Trolling stickbaits can be deadly for trout when they are trolled at the proper speed.

Kensico Reservoir Fishing

The Kensico Reservoir is located in Westchester County. The reservoir is over 2,200 acres in size. The lake's maximum depth is just about 130 feet, with the average depth of over 40 feet. The upper regions of the reservoir are very shallow.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation stocks rainbows, browns and lake trout here. The forage base is made up of alewifes which are commonly called sawbellies. When fishing for trout try to use spoons or lures that will resemble these baitfish.

The lake has a large population of lake trout that are mostly ignored by anglers. Jigging for lakers is becoming a very popular method to catch these elusive fish. Fisherman are using jigging spoons and bass jigs to entice lakers. Some are using a fish attractants on the baits. A few are also using the new powerbaits which seem to work very well.
