Pictured above are Michael Siegal and Nathan Siegal from Manhattan N.Y.C. Michael and his son Nathan were on a father and son fishing trip to Lake Ontario in Oswego NY. This trip was to celebrate Nathens senior year at Colgate University. They had decided to do some night fishing on the Oswego River. So they booked a trip with Shane Thomas of Gottum Guide Service for May 16 and 17 of 2006.
The fishing was fantastic as you can see. Mike displays a awesome walleye that he caught and released while night fishing along the Lake Ontario shoreline. Nathan proudly displays a monster brown trout that they caught & released while night fishing. They had a great time fishing with Shane and are all ready planning trips for next fall and winter.
When night fishing on Lake Ontario the main targets are walleye and bass, but early in the spring big browns and rainbows will cruise the shallows and may show up as a bonus catch. Big northern pike and muskellunge are also possible year round. At the end of the summer during September lots of king and coho salmon are caught along the shoreline and around the mouths of Lake Ontario tribs as well.
The Oswego area of Lake Ontario has produced a
World Record Coho Salmon as well as the New York State Record Brown Trout . Stephen M. Sheets of Woolrich, Pa., caught the record breaking coho that weighed in at 33.45 pounds on August 13, 1998. Tony Brown of Schenectady, NY caught the new state record brown of 33-pounds, 2-ounces on June 10, 1997. Both of these fantastic fish were taken by clients of local Charter Captains.
