Pictured here is In-Fisherman Magazine Contributor Brett Richardson with a 7 pound 3 ounce Largemouth Bass that he caught from Round Lake just after the ice had left the lake. The big bass was taken on a jig fished off the edges of a weedbed. Weedbeds are fish magnets early in the spring because they collect the solar energy and warm more quickly than the deeper open water. They also provide cover for the forage base that has been under siege all winter.

  Round Lake is located in Saratoga County and is just south of Saratoga Lake. Round Lake is about one tenth the size of Saratoga Lake and is often overlooked as a primary fishing destination. Round Lake offers excellent fishing for Largemouth Bass, Tiger Muskellunge, and Northern Pike. Both Saratoga Lake and Round Lake live in the shadow of The Great Sacandaga Lake which is just to the west. Round Lake is very popular with the ice fisherman and can be one of the first lakes to offer safe fishing for the winter season.
