Brian Miller of Central Islip, NY caught this awesome Largemouth bass on opening day 2006. It was caught at Upper Yaphank Lake on Long Island.

The name Yaphank is taken from an Indian name which means the bank of a river.

The fish was caught on a plastic sunfish made by Storm Lures. After a quick photo it was safely released to be caught another day!


Fishing On Upper Yaphank Lake

 Upper Yaphank Lake is part of the Carmans River system in Suffolk County NY. The Upper Yaphank Lake is 19 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 6 feet. Anglers who fish here may encouter the following species of fish, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel, Brown Bullhead, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout.

 Carmans River system is ten miles long and starts as a freshwater stream in Yaphank. The river runs south through Upper and Lower Yaphank Lakes, South Haven Pond, then flows into Bellport Bay,at the eastern portion of Great South Bay. The river is stocked with brook, brown, and rainbow trout each year. It is the largest undeveloped estuary system remaining on Long Island and is designated as a New York Scenic River.
