Jason Testa caught this Black Drum weighed in at an amazing weight of 55 pounds.

 Jason Testa was fishing with some friends aboard the "Hey Babe" . They were fishing for striped bass in Jones Inlet by the Point Lookout Jetties. Jason was using clam bellies for bait and the fishing was slow at first. They were only catching a few skates here and there. They decided to find some deeper water and thats where this gigantic Black Drum decided he would give Jason's arm a good work out. The big Black Drum weighed in at 55 pounds.


Black Drum In NY

 Black Drum can be found along the Atlantic Coast from New York south through the Gulf of Mexico. The Black Drum may live for more than to 40 years and can possibly attain weights of more than 100 pounds. The current world record Black Drum weighed just over 113 pounds. It was caught by Gerald M. Townsend while fishing the Lewes, Delaware area on September 15, 1975.

 Black Drum tend to be a bottom feeder and can be found over sand or mud bottoms in bays and jetties. They are sometimes found near bridges, piers and other manmade structures. The diet of the Black Drum consist of small crabs, worms, algae, small fish and mollusks.
