Located in Wantagh, NY you will find a wonderful jewel called Jones Beach State Park. The park was established way back in 1929. Instantly the park was a success with over 1.5 million visitors in the first year. The park has over 6.5 miles of sandy beach for the serious beach crowd. Although most famous for its swimming the fishing opportunities should not be overlooked.
There is a very nice bait shop and four saltwater fishing piers which are open year round. During the off season there is no charge to fish there, but from Memorial Day to Labor Day there is a $8.00 charge to park in the parking lot which can hold up to 21,000 cars. So you can see this place must be popular. Restrooms and a concession stand are also available here. There is a Jetty for surf fishing on west end of the park. Some of the species of fish that can be caught here are Flounder, Striped Bass, Fluke, Weakfish, Porgy's, Sea Bass, and Blackfish.
